A Baby on the Way!

When my childhood best friend called to tell me she was pregnant, I think the first thing I said was "Yay! Are you okay with a woodland theme for your baby shower?"

Ginger and I grew up in one of the smallest towns in Georgia where life is simple and nature is all around.  I had been wanting to throw a woodland  theme baby shower, and she seemed to be the perfect candidate.  And so it began...

The invitation was all about nature. To the natural kraft paper backing to the pair of leaves tied with twine to the little critters poping up around the floral border, everything about this invitation was about what you might find in the woods. For the location, I picked the local old train depot. Its old wooden floors and brick walls seemed most suitable for the backdrop for this shower.

For the decor in the room, I wanted everything  to reflect back to the invitation. With the help of my lovely assistant , my mother, we created cardboard stumps and felt critters. As for the linens... plaid flannel gave the tables that cozy feeling I was looking for.

Keeping with the theme, I tied the linen napkins and silverware with jute twine, added a die cut leaf, and placed them inside an old picnic basket.  For this baby shower, it was all about nature so fresh picked camellias and Japanese maples seemed to be the most fitting choice for flowers.

With a breakfast menu, we covered all the basics.... sweet , savory, salty, and ....COFFEE!

As guest entered the Depot, they were invited to participate in one of the games planned for the shower. Guest were encourage to take some of their spare change and place it in Baby's piggy bank, and guess how much would be in the bank at the end of the shower.  This baby is already $21 closer to a new car or a collage education!

For the cake, woodland critter cookies, and mushroom cake pop favors, I went with the same images form the invitation. A cozy little spot by the door, seemed the most ideal place for the cake and favors. I placed the cake atop an antique three tier pedestal table, nestled the cookie favors in fresh moss, placed mushroom cake pops within the layers of the stumps, and placed a handmade squirrel in a red vintage child's rocker.
